In response to the accelerating market trends in US-China air travel routes and to better meet the demand of travelers heading to California, United Airlines and Visit California jointly hosted a "North China Agent Seminar." The purpose of this seminar was to provide detailed information about the recent developments in United Airlines' US-China direct flights and the preparations made by California to welcome Chinese tourists.
Recently, the Civil Aviation Administration of China announced its winter-spring flight schedule, with the potential to increase the number of US-China direct regular passenger flights from the current 48 per week to 70 per week, providing travelers with more convenient travel options. United Airlines also made an exciting announcement: starting from October 1, daily flights from Shanghai to San Francisco have resumed, and from November 11, daily flights from Beijing to San Francisco will also be reinstated. The resumption of this series of flights will offer Chinese travelers more convenient travel choices to meet their demands to visit California.
"Through San Francisco, a vital West Coast hub, United Airlines offers daily flights to more than 60 popular destinations in the United States. Additionally, we operate two daily round-trip flights between Hong Kong and San Francisco and daily round-trip flights between Hong Kong and Los Angeles," said United Airlines China Sales Director, Nancy Lv.
During the event, United Airlines revealed that they will use the largest Boeing 777-300ER aircraft to operate the flights from Shanghai and Beijing to San Francisco, providing passengers with unparalleled comfort and amenities, ensuring a relaxed and enjoyable journey across the Pacific. Visit California has invested in China for nearly 15 years. Among all global markets, China has the highest share of arrivals where California is the first intended address at 32% of U.S. visitation – an advantage that is expected to grow as travel out of China increases.
Pre-pandemic, China was California’s top overseas market with 1.5 million travelers spending over $4 billion across the state. As the country reopens, it is forecasted to quickly regain its position as the state’s top overseas market in 2023 even at only 45% of pre-pandemic levels.
Meanwhile, Visit California plans to invest over $7 million in China over the coming months in travel trade, public relations, integrated partnerships, and direct-to-consumer brand advertising.
California Governor Gavin Newsom recently completed a successful trip to China, where he conveyed the message that many of California’s world-class cities, iconic attractions, and epic experiences have new offerings to explore and are ready to roll out the red carpet for Chinese visitors and welcome all people and all dreams.
